Epoxy flake flooring Come in a Large Variety of options. Application Consists Of 4 Coats: Prime Coat- Diluted epoxy with colour tint (refer to product TDS for diluent percentage and type) Base Coat - Tinted Epoxy and Casted Flake Clear Coat - UV Stable Polyurethane Clear Coat Top Clear Coat - UV Stable polyurethane Clear Coat Application Guide : Step 1: Prepare The Concrete For The Epoxy Flake Floor System This is the most critical step as with most decorative concrete projects. All substrates must be properly prepared. They must be clean and free from any contaminants that may inhibit the adhesion of the resins. Concrete must be cured for a minimum of 30 days and be free of any internal moisture. The slab should be profiled to a minimum CSP-2 from grinding. This means “pretty rough”. You want the surface to be similar to 60 or 80 grit . This gives the resin something to grab onto. It is imperative that all dust is thoroughly vacuumed after prep. Cracks to be filled prior to epoxy application. Step 2: Apply A Primer/Base Coat The surface must be correctly primed to reduce air bubbles know as (craters) because when the epoxy begins to cure the air trapped in the pores of the concrete rise to the surface creating air bubbles that pop leaving a crate like imperfection. You must dilute the primer coat refer to product tds for amount and product. The primer coat allows the first coat of epoxy to bond into the pores of the concrete to allow correct adhesion and reduced amount of craters. Step 3: Broadcast The Flakes once primer coat has had sufficient time to cure check over floor for hidden crack and craters. please Check tds sheet for curing times as epoxy will not adhere to itself after a certain period of time, if you miss the application time the floor can be re etched using 80 grit sandpaper. any cracks will stick out like a sore thumb, builders bog can used to fill any perfections. any craters can be sanded with 80 grit sand paper. After any sanding floor should be vacuumed and mopped with a small amount of solvent and a flat mop. you can now apply the second coat of tinted epoxy diluted to preferred viscosity. roll out a manageable section of epoxy before casting flake over 3/4 of this section leaving room for rolling the next section. repeat this process covering the entire floor. Step 4: Scrape the Floor and apply clear After the floor has had sufficient Drying time within recoating time frame scrape the floor NSEW direction with a flat floor scrapper, you can use a small scraper for corners and edges. Vacuum all flakes and dust form the floor. (optional) floor can be sanded using 120- 80 grit to ensure flakes are smooth and flat, DO NOT sand to much as we don't want to burn through the flake coating. Ensure floor is free from any dust or loose flake before applying the clear. Roll polyurethane clear coat in a thin even coating over entire floor making sure to ensure even coat. Step 5: Apply A Protective Topcoat Once previous coat has had Sufficient drying ensure no dust or contaminates are vacuumed or blown off surface. apply polyurethane the same way as previous step. A third coat of polyurethane can be applied if desired Disclaimer: (Please not this is only a general guide please follow all given instructions of the product you are using.)
